The Message from Amazon and Microsoft ... from Seattle: Go Pacific Northwest.

As Amazon and Microsoft released their quarterly results last week, the world has begun to take notice of the importance of cloud computing. Consider this particular headline from Forbes: The author concludes that '... the cloud rules'.

What is interesting to note here is that both of these are headquartered in the Seattle region.

Add F5 Networks, Starbucks and Zillow that are also headquartered in the region to the mix, and you have a substantial hotbed of high-tech activity in this area. That is, even if you didn't count the other high-tech companies who have set up shop in this region, to name only a few: Facebook, Google, Oracle, ...

From Silicon Valley to Seattle.

There comes a time in your life when you have to give greater importance to your spouse's career1. Thus it is that I'm blogging from the Seattle area.

After serving Cisco for a little more than 19 years, and starting today, my wife has joined Microsoft Corporation. She is excited to be part of a cloud infrastructure initiative within Microsoft, in Redmond, WA.

How did we decide to leave Silicon Valley for Redmond Country, after having been in the Valley for several decades? The Microsoft opportunity for my wife's career came first, of course.
